One of the few drawbacks to strawberries is their life expectancy once they ripen and are harvested. They grow moldy in a very short space of time. On the other hand though, fresh strawberries contain no salt or Cholesterol and hardly any fat at all. They are also very rich in fiber and vitamin C, not to mention minerals like Potassium, Manganese, Magnesium, Calcium and Phosphorus, and most importantly Folate. Besides, you don't have to worry about calories since for the most part they are given by the fruit's natural sugars.

Frozen strawberries, icing on the cake

It's a fact that fresh strawberries are a lot more tastier than frozen ones. However, the latter are still delicious and lose none of the nutritional value of the fresh fruit. Also it would be good for you to know that the calorie count is sure to become four to almost five times higher if you freeze the whole raw strawberry with sugar. There is no risk of losing your vitamin C dose if you eat them this way, the only risk is to your weight. And for some occult reason, if the sugared frozen strawberries are also sliced, the calorie count goes higher still. 100 grams of strawberries canned in syrup will count 235 calories more or less. Whether sugared or syrup-canned, strawberries will continue to have the same nutritional values as the fresh ones, but they will be harder to digest.

Juicing it up with strawberries

Fixing a juice out of strawberries mixed with bananas and oranges will offer your senses a great flavor experience. This juice will provide the same nutritional value found in fresh strawberries plus added Potassium from the bananas and added Vitamin C from the oranges. This freshly squeezed juice will have an energetic value of approximately 120 calories per 100ml, and a fairly higher sugar content. As for heavily processed canned fruit juices, the sugar content is considerably higher and the nutritional values much lower than the freshly squeezed fruit juice.

Other great ways that strawberries can help your body:

*Raw strawberries are known to help with lowering the fat levels in the blood, or cholesterol.

*Did you know they are good for the health of your gums? Rub a fresh strawberry on the gums and the teeth and it will help to remove tartar and improve the health of your gums.

*Nutrient absorption becomes a less difficult task for your body, if you consume the fiber-rich strawberry.

*Blood pressure levels can be lowered or stabilized by eating strawberries.

*The potassium that is found in strawberries can help regulate the electrolytes in your body.

*Antioxidant levels are high in these berries, as they are in most berries, and this will help your body counter the ill effects of free radicals in the system. *If you want to detoxify your body, all you have to do is include strawberries in your daily menu and they'll do the trick for you. - 24553
